Research Studies of Music Vocal Studies / Instrumental Studies / Composition / Musicology / Music Education 5 students

*Standard term of studies for the Doctoral Program is 3 years.

Entrance Examinations

Vocal Studies

  1. Research Paper : Submission of the Master Thesis or a paper, etc. that can be judged to be equivalent to these. Otherwise, submit a thesis or a paper, etc. regarding the research theme in Doctoral Program.
  2. Essay : Research plan for the Doctoral Program (90 minutes)
  3. Interview : Based on the Research Paper and Essay
  4. Audition : At least 20 minutes performance based on the research theme. The set piece will be announced on the date of audition. (Candidate may be interrupted to a stop in the middle of the performance.) Must be performed memorized.
  5. Foreign Language* : Choose one from English, German, French and Italian. (only one dictionary is allowed, but electronic dictionaries are prohibited.)(60 minutes)

*International students must choose one language from English, German, French or Italian (native language selection is possible) in addition to submitting documents related to the Japanese Language Test.

Instrumental Studies

  1. Research Paper : Submission of the Master Thesis or a paper, etc. that can be judged to be equivalent to these. Otherwise, submit a thesis or a paper, etc. regarding the research theme in Doctoral Program.
  2. Essay : Research plan for the Doctoral Program (90 minutes)
  3. Interview : Based on the Research Paper and Essay
  4. Audition : At least a 30 minutes performance based on the research theme (Candidate may be interrupted to a stop in the middle of the performance.) Must be performed memorized. However, in the case of chamber music or contemporary music including indeterminacy, it is not this limitation.
  5. Foreign Language* : Choose one from English, German, French and Italian. (only one dictionary is allowed, but electronic dictionaries are prohibited.)(60 minutes)

*International students must choose one language from English, German, French or Italian (native language selection is possible) in addition to submitting documents related to the Japanese Language Test.

Composition Studies

  1. Research Paper : Submission of the Master Thesis or a paper, etc. that can be judged to be equivalent to these. Otherwise, submit a thesis or a paper, etc. regarding the research theme in Doctoral Program.
  2. Essay : Research plan for the Doctoral Program (90 minutes)
  3. Interview : Based on the Research Paper, Essay and submitted work
  4. Evaluation : Review of the submitted work which is related to the research theme.
  5. Foreign Language*: Choose one from English, German, French and Italian. (only one dictionary is allowed, but electronic dictionaries are prohibited.)(60 minutes)

*International students must choose one language from English, German, French or Italian (native language selection is possible) in addition to submitting documents related to the Japanese Language Test.

Musicology

  1. Thesis : Submission of the Master Thesis or a thesis related to the Master Thesis
  2. Essay :Research plan for the Doctoral Program (90 minutes)
  3. Interview : Based on the Master Thesis and Essay
  4. Foreign Language(Language Subjects)* : Choose two from English, German, French, Italian and Japanese (ancient literature).Only those whose research focuses on Japan before the Meiji Era may select Japanese (ancient literature.) However, if the research field is Instruments/ Acoustics or Music Therapy, choose one language(Japanese (ancient literature) may not be selected).For each language, only one dictionary is allowed, but electronic dictionaries are prohibited. (60minutes)

*International students choose one from English, German, French, Italian or Japanese (ancient literature) (native language selection is possible) in addition to submittting documents related to the Japanese Language Test. *International Applicants are also required to take Foreign Language Examination in all majors.
